INFERNUS Vs. KING OV HELL: GORGOROTH Name Dispute To Land In Norwegian Court
December 1, 2008GORGOROTH guitarist Infernus — who is involved in a legal dispute with his estranged bandmates over the rights to the group's name — has issued the following update:
"Infernus filed a lawsuit against King ov Hell [real name: Tom Cato Visnes] in September this year, on the basis of King ov Hell (the sixth bass player in GORGOROTH's history) going behind Infernus' back in September 2007, secretly applying for trademark protection of the bandname and logo of GORGOROTH, which Infernus started using in 1992. The court case has now finally been scheduled. It will take place in Oslo, Norway, in the last week of January 2009. As soon as the court has made its decision, further information will be found at www.gorgoroth.info.
"It is also with great pleasure that it can be announced that Infernus' new GORGOROTH line-up has been completed. The identity of the vocalist, which may not come as a surprise to some, will be revealed in a few days. Hail Satan!"
Infernus recently announced that former GORGOROTH guitarist Tormentor accepted Infernus' offer to rejoin the band in its new incarnation. Joining Tormentor and Infernus in the new band are Tomas Asklund (drums; DISSECTION) and Frank Watkins (bass; OBITUARY).
The Gaahl-fronted version of GORGOROTH recently entered the studio in its hometown of Bergen, Norway to begin recording eight new tracks composed by King ov Hell (bass). Along with Gaahl, King and Frost (SATYRICON) on drums, the full recording lineup includes Teloch (guitar) and Ice Dale (guitar). ENSLAVED's Herbrand Larsen is once again producing GORGOROTH in the studio.
According to Gaahl and King, the Swedish appeal courts (Hovretten in Malmö) recently upheld the decision by authorities at Tingretten in the matter concerning Regain Records' unauthorized release of GORGOROTH's "True Norwegian Black Metal - Live in Grieghallen" album. Regain Records was once again found in violation of copyrights and agreements made with Gaahl and King and was ordered to cease distribution of this release.
"Live in Grieghallen" was released in June via Regain. According to a press release, the CD was recorded live at Grieghallen in Bergen, Norway by Eirik "Pytten" Hundvin and features Infernus on bass and guitar, Gaahl on vocals, and Garghuf on drums.
